創業の背景
Leyden Labsはオランダのライデンに本社を置くバイオテクノロジー企業で、新型コロナウイルスのパンデミック下の2020年に設立された。創業者はDinko Valerio、Jaap Goudsmit、Ronald Brus、Koenraad Wiedhaupの4人で、いずれもCrucellを築いた人物である。Crucellは2011年にJohnson & Johnsonに買収された。呼吸器ウイルスが鼻から侵入するのに、なぜ防御を血流経由で全身に届けるのかという疑問から、侵入部位である気道粘膜に直接防御を届ける製品の開発を始めたと同社は説明している。
