概要
NuVision Biotherapies is a University of Nottingham spinout that uses amniotic membrane, the tissue surrounding babies in the womb, in products supporting eye surgery recovery and glaucoma management. Its newest product, OmniLenz, is a specialised contact lens enabling amniotic membrane use without surgery.
創業の背景
NuVision Biotherapies は2015年、Andy Hopkinson 博士がノッティンガム大学での研究に基づいて創業した。英国ノッティンガムに拠点を置き、選択的帝王切開を受ける女性から提供された羊膜組織を原料に自社工場で製品を製造する。最初の製品 Omnigen は手術室での使用を想定して設計され、その後、手術を要さずに羊膜を使える専用コンタクトレンズ OmniLenz を発売して、眼科の診療所や検眼院にも利用の場を広げた。
