概要

Wearable Robotics is a spin-off of Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna that manufactures robotic devices and exoskeletons for rehabilitation, movement assistance and human capacity augmentation. Its NEXUM Medical division builds upper-limb rehabilitation robots integrated with AR and VR, led by the ALEX RS bilateral device with over 50 units installed internationally, while NEXUM Industry makes load-handling exoskeletons for workers. The company operates in 20 countries and holds eight proprietary patents. Headquartered in Pisa.

創業の背景

Wearable Roboticsは、ピサのScuola Superiore Sant'Annaからスピンオフして2014年に設立された企業である。PERCRO(知覚ロボティクス)研究所を中心とする約25年の研究成果を、試作機の段階から生物医学と産業の市場へ移転することを目的としている。創業した研究グループは2013年にMarzotto賞(技術主導の事業アイデア部門)を受賞し、2014年には外骨格やセンサに関する6件の特許の独占ライセンスを同校から受け、2022年に同特許群を最終的に取得した。神経運動リハビリの個別化と、荷物取扱い作業の支援を課題としている。
