Kuehnle AgroSystems (KAS) is an algal biotechnology company producing natural astaxanthin through a proprietary non-GMO dark fermentation process. Natural astaxanthin is used in salmon aquaculture for coloration and fish health and in human nutraceuticals. Kuehnle AgroSystems（KAS）は米国ハワイ州ホノルルに本社、アイルランドのコークにも拠点を置く藻類バイオ企業で、食品・飼料・健康産業向けの高付加価値な天然成分をマイクロアルジェから生産することに注力している。同社は、市販のアスタキサンチンの多くが、水産養殖向けでは化学合成品、ヒト向けではヘマトコッカス藻の光培養に由来すると説明している。これに対し、Haematococcus pluvialisの暗発酵法を発明し、特許取得済みの藻株と組み合わせることで、天然由来のアスタキサンチンを手頃な価格で供給することを目指している。
