Limenet is an Italian deep tech benefit company working on carbon dioxide removal through ocean alkalinity enhancement. Its patented process combines calcium carbonate, seawater and renewable energy to convert CO2 into an aqueous solution of calcium bicarbonates at the same pH as seawater. It operates a storage plant in Augusta, Sicily rated at 800 tonnes of CO2 removal per year and a calcination prototype in Lecco, and is designing an integrated plant in Augusta with 1,500 tonnes per year of decarbonised lime capacity. In 2025 it became the first Southern European company to sign a CDR prepurchase agreement with Frontier.
