創業の背景
Luna Diabetesは、John Sjölund、Jon Brilliant、Sean Saintの3人が創業した。いずれも本人または家族が糖尿病を経験しており、Companion Medical、Timesulin、Welldocといった過去の創業企業での経験を持つと同社は説明している。Sjölundは4歳で1型糖尿病と診断された。創業者らは、インスリンペンで治療する多くの人が自動インスリン投与の恩恵を受けられていないことに着目した。自動投与による血糖改善の8割超は睡眠中に生じるとして、夜間の血糖管理に絞った新しい療法として、ペン療法を続けながら就寝中だけ自動で投与する小型の貼付型ポンプLunaを開発している。本社はカリフォルニア州サンディエゴにある。
