概要
MindImmune Therapeutics develops therapies aimed at the immune mechanisms behind neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease. Its lead candidate MITI-101 is a monoclonal antibody designed to keep harmful immune cells from entering the brain, intervening upstream of the inflammatory cascade. The company grew out of research at the University of Rhode Island. Headquartered in Kingston, Rhode Island.
創業の背景
MindImmuneはロードアイランド大学を拠点とする企業で、同大学のGeorge & Anne Ryan Institute for Neuroscienceで創薬に取り組んでいたStevin Zorn、Frank Menniti、Robert Nelsonの各氏らが研究を主導して始まった。同社は、炎症プロセスがアルツハイマー病などの神経変性疾患を駆動し得るという発見に基づいて設立されたと説明している。2016年にはSlater Technology Fundが最初の資金を投じた。アミロイド斑だけでなく、血中から脳へ入る免疫細胞が斑を有害にする引き金ではないかという問いが、脳の外側で疾患を標的とする治療アプローチの出発点になっている。
