地域の古紙を断熱包装材に変える装置

概要

SUPASO makes circular cooling and insulation packaging from recycled paper and cardboard as a replacement for EPS polystyrene, including insulating inlays for temperature-controlled shipments. Its Modular Up Cycling Hub is a machine-as-a-service model that lets packaging converters and paper mills produce inlays on site from their own paper waste instead of shipping bulky insulation across Europe. Founded in 2021 in Styria, the company plans its first pilot machine for the first quarter of next year. Headquartered in Hartberg.

創業の背景

SUPASOは2021年にオーストリアのシュタイアーマルク州で設立された。共同創業者にFabian Gems氏がいる。同社は、断熱材は軽くてかさばるため輸送距離が延びるほど1件あたりの費用が上がり、環境面の利点も損なわれるという課題に着目した。経済的に配送できる範囲は約300〜400kmにとどまると説明している。そこで完成品を各地へ運ぶのではなく、パートナー企業が自社の紙・段ボール廃棄物から現地でインレイを製造するModular Up Cycling Hubを考案した。EUの包装規則PPWRによりEPSへの圧力が強まっていることも背景にあるとしている。
