概要

Volta Greentech, founded in 2019, develops a cattle feed additive called Lome that suppresses methane-producing microbes in the rumen. The company is finalizing an EU regulatory application to support a wider European market launch. Its customers and partners include Coop Sverige, Axfood, and Orkla.

創業の背景

Volta Greentechは2019年に設立されたスウェーデンのバイオテクノロジー企業で、本社はヨーテボリにある。同社は、牛の反芻によって生じるメタンが地球温暖化の大きな要因であるという問題意識から、地球温暖化に科学で立ち向かうことを使命に掲げている。当初は紅藻アスパラゴプシスを用いた方式に注力していたが、その後、藻の持つメタン削減の特性を再現する次世代の添加物Lomeに移行したと説明している。藻の大規模培養の難しさが、よりスケールしやすい製造方法への転換の理由だったという。
