概要
Orbital is building compute satellites intended to serve as data centers in low Earth orbit, relying on continuous sunlight and radiative cooling instead of terrestrial power and water. The funding covers Pathfinder, its first in-orbit technology demonstration, plus early work on Orbital-1 and a Los Angeles manufacturing facility. It was founded by Euwyn Poon, previously a co-founder of the scooter company Spin. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California.

Orbital(Orbital Compute, Inc.)は2026年にカリフォルニア州ロサンゼルスで設立された。創業者兼CEOのEuwyn Poonは2017年に電動スクーター企業Spinを創業して翌年Fordに売却し、同社に移った人物である。Ford退社後は、NVIDIAのA100を8基購入してSanta Claraのデータセンターに設置し、オープンウェイトモデルを提供した経験から、AI時代に価値を持つのは計算の提供だと確信したと報じられている。同社はa16zのアクセラレータ「speedrun」から生まれ、AI需要で逼迫する電力、土地、許認可の制約を宇宙で回避することを目指す。チームにはAmazon Leo、Northrop Grumman、Lockheed Martinなどの出身者がいる。
