概要
Cornea Sense is an Aalto University spinout combining terahertz sensing with optical coherence tomography to measure corneal hydration directly and non-invasively. The underlying research began at Aalto in 2018 and the company was founded in January 2026 after a two-year Business Finland Research-to-Business project. Funding goes toward a human-compatible research prototype, preclinical studies and regulatory preparation. Headquartered in Espoo.
創業の背景
Cornea Senseは、フィンランドのAalto大学で2018年に始まった研究を事業化するスピンアウトである。同大学で2024年から2025年にかけて行われたBusiness Finlandの研究から事業化への2年間のプロジェクトで、チームは基礎となる科学を進め、機能するテラヘルツとOCTのプロトタイプを作り、臨床パートナーとの関係を築いた。その後2026年1月に会社が設立された。CEO兼共同創業者のAnton Chernenko博士は、角膜水分量は眼科医が多くの臨床判断の改善に役立つと挙げる指標でありながら、これまで実用的に測る方法がなかったと述べ、その測定を可能にすることを掲げている。
